The George Mitchell Collection Box Set

The George Mitchell Collection is a vital archive of Southern blues, capturing raw, intimate field recordings made by folklorist George Mitchell between the 1960s and early ’80s. Traveling through the South, Mitchell recorded unheralded blues musicians in their homes and communities, including now-legendary figures like R.L. Burnside, Fred McDowell, and Jessie Mae Hemphill. These recordings offer an unfiltered glimpse into regional traditions and musical storytelling that might have otherwise been lost. Celebrated for its authenticity and cultural significance, the collection remains a powerful document of American roots music and the everyday voices that shaped it.
